Dr. Thors is an active member of the European Society for Pediatric Infectious Diseases as a member of the Committee for Scientific Affairs and Awards. He is the president of the Icelandic Society of Paediatrics and serves as a member of the Scientific Council at the Landspitali University Hospital. Additionally, he is one of three members of the board managing paediatric specialty training in Iceland and is part of the specialist advisory group (NITAG) for childhood immunisations in Iceland. Dr. Thors completed his medical degree from the University of Iceland in 2003. He began his paediatric training in 2004 and continued his studies in the Netherlands (2006-2011) and the UK (2011-2016). He defended his PhD at the University of Bristol, UK, focused on the relationship between viral respiratory infections and colonising bacteria of the nasopharynx. His research interests include vaccine-preventable infections, particularly influenza and pneumococcal infections, infections in the immunocompromised, and congenital CMV.
