About

Cunnington

I am a Clinical Senior Lecturer at Imperial College and Honorary Consultant in Paediatric Infectious Diseases at St Mary's Hospital, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. My research focuses on the interactions between hosts and pathogens which result in severe infectious diseases, particularly severe malaria. I am interested in understanding why some people get very ill and die from malaria, whilst others have less severe illness. I am also interested in personalised medicine approaches to the diagnosis and management of severe infections. We use diverse approaches to study these problems including transcriptomics, analysis of human tissue samples, in vitro and in vivo models. I currently co-direct the Imperial College Network of Excellence in Malaria research.
